The Schmutz Company presents: Papermation
We’re so thrilled to be working on this project again thanks to a grant from the good folks at the Sprout Fund. To find out more about the Spark grant that we received and the mission of Sprout Fund scroll down to the bottom of this page. They do amazing stuff and we’re really happy to be a part of what they do.
About Papermation
In April 2010 the Schmutz Company teamed up with the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh as part of their FINE Foundation Residency program. We spent a week working with museum visitors to create animation. We taught the kids about the time it takes to make animation as well as teaching them how easy it is to do at home with things like a digital camera, a tripod, some paper, markers, or even things cut out of magazines.
They taught us lots of stuff too! The kids taught us about asthma, hockey, cowgirls, and underwater adventures. We got to meet some amazing folks from as far away as Vancouver and Saskatoon (those are in Canada, eh) and as close to home as the Northside of Pittsburgh and Lawrenceville.
We’re very happy to have been given the opportunity to start the project back up and we’ll be returning to the Children’s Museum in the fall of 2010 (check back here and at the museum’s website for dates and times). We’re also in talks with other venues that we may bring the project to over the winter or into the spring of 2011.
We’re also going to be producing a how-to video so even if you can’t make it to any of the venues you should still be able to do the same thing at home with materials that most people have access to. The biggest, most expensive things you’ll need are a computer and a digital camera.
Examples of Papermation
Here are some examples of the work we did – enjoy!
